agnostic zeal

i wish for no conversation with
God
the capital G, the Decision,
the Creation, the Destruction,
the Obstruction between here
and the heavenly
the All-powerful Sieve
the Great Perfectionist

no,
i do not seek to speak
to intimidation

let me speak with angels
the neither omnipotent nor earthly
benevolent nor impotent
the unimportants, the in-betweens
heaven's migrant workers
breaking their wings
on the weight of our codependency
with saviors

let me speak with you
the not me
the view i cannot see
the internal outside this body
let us be one thing
that is neither whole
nor incomplete

let me speak within
without talking
nor note taking
swearing
deprecating
trying on invisible linen

let me wander the streets
in these unclothed conversations

  1. Dear Will, I’m so glad I found my way here, to meet you poetically and share your feeling.

    And I like the angelic direction which brought me here. I’m drafting a piece and I was just writing this:

    The God Instinct, which by the way is published in US as The Belief Instinct. Bering is an atheist, which gives me no problems, for I’m one too, possibly; though the doubt indicates agnosticism, a state of consciousness which suits me far better, for you never hear of “agnostic zeal”.’

    If I were using a typewriter, that last phrase would have rested there inertly, but since I’m modern and use a computer connected online, it was a small step to test my hypothesis and google “agnostic zeal”: 173 hits and you come out top. Rightly so.
